"My Father's Gun' – Book Reading by Hiner Saleem

In coherence with this year's 4th Kurdish Film Festival, the Kurdish film maker, painter and author Hiner Saleem will be performing a reading from his first novel 'My Father's Gun'.

Short synopsis: Childhood in Iraq – with a father, who used to sing him old Kurdish songs, with a mother, who never held back her husband or sons when they went to war. Kurdistan, the land of pomegranate and mulberry trees, the fruits of which children would sell to the soldiers for Coca Cola. However, Hiner Saleem's childhood also included destroyed villages, bombed schools, escape and displacement. Both a paradise and a prison; a childhood, which the successful film maker Hinar Saleem could never forget, even in exile.

About the author: Hiner Saleem was born in 1964 in Kurdistan, in the north of Iraq. At 17 years old he fled to Italy, where he went to school. Today, he lives in Paris, although his position as a political refugee means he has no right to a passport or a vote. His film »Vodka Lemon« won the San-Marco prize for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival.
