"100 Steps" - Film & Discussion
Italian film screening and discussion at Sprachenatelier.
Next Tuesday the Sprachenatelier will be showing the film "100 Steps" (orig. "I cento passi"), a film by Marco Tullio Giordana from 2000. Subsequently, we invite you to a group discussion with Laura Garavini, founder of the Initiative "Mafia? No thanks!".
We present...
the film "100 Steps" by Marco Tullio Giordana (OmU). The film shows the life of the Italian politician and anti-Mafia fighter Giuseppe "Peppino" Impastato (1948 Cinisi/Palermo - 1978). Impastato was the son of a Mafioso in Cinisi, where he lived only 100 steps away from the house of the Mafia boss Tano Badalamenti. Even as a youth he rebelled against his father and the actions of the Mafia. Amongst other things, Impastato created an anti-Mafia radio station, with which he informed people about the deeds of the Mafia and brought his uncle, a leading Mafioso, and his actions to light. Impastato was killed by the Mafia when he applied to be a candidate during the 1978 Sicilian elections.

with Laura Garavini who, amongst other things, works for the "Union of Italians in the World" and founded the successful campaign called „Mafia? No thanks!" together with two restauranteurs of Italian origin. The initiative „Mafia? No thanks!" was grounded by Laura and the two restaurateurs as a response to the blood bath of Duisberg in August 2007. Six Italians were shot by the killers of the group "Ndrangheta" in front of a restaurant. After creating the idea for the initiative "addiopizzo" in Sicily, Laura Garavini contacted some gastronomic organisations in Berlin, on the day of the blood bath in Duisberg. With them, she decided to try and prevent the associations and preconceptions of people, who believed that Italians are all associated with the Mafia.
