Pergamonmuseum

This Wednesday, we will visit the world famous Pergamonmuseum. It provides impressive reconstructions of massive archaeological structures, such as the Pergamon Altar, Market Gate of Miletus, The Ishtar Gate and Processional Way from Babylon, and the Mshatta Facade. It is the most visited museum among the „Staatliche Museen“ and in Germany as a whole. A smaller version initially stood on the same site from 1901 until 1908, when it became structurally unstable and had to be demolished. The new Pergamonmuseum was constructed from 1910 to 1930, overseen by Ludwig Hoffmann, and designed by Alfred Messel.
