Korunma/Protection - Ezgi Kilincaslan

The opening of the Turkish artist Ezgi Kilincaslan's exhibition

Ezgi Kilincaslan was born in 1978 in Besni in Turkey. She finished her art degree in 1998 at the Marmara University. Since then, she has been participating in various exhibitions and projects. This is her first exhibition in Berlin.

Ezgi Kilincaslan created this woman. She says that the woman protects herself. "I paint the pictures", she says, "that's how I do it.“

Ezgi Kilincaslan is a newcomer who should be taken seriously in the art world. But actually her strength lies in the fact that she doesn't take anything very seriously. In the city district of Tünnel in Istanbul, life is rough. Life is difficult everywhere in the world. Ezgi knows this. She is very aware of what she sacrificed in life. This woman knows everything. Words are irrelevant. Everything has an air of mystery. These are women, who always knows what to say.

Ezgi Kilincaslan is the embodiment of womankind. They have been living for a long, long time in a world where they have had to protect themselves. This thing that happened to them, this thing called puberty – it feels never-ending, like they will never stop changing. But they are right to think like this. They will never feel fully mature. They have always been this way.

Ezgi Kilincaslan still bears some of this inside her. Ezgi Kilincaslan's pictures are her escape. In fact, they tell her whole story.
