Culture Wednesday: Dreams of the Seen and Unseen
The Culture Wednesday will take place at the janinebeangallery, where a new exhibition titled Dreams of the Seen and Unseen is on view from 7th November. It presents drawings and paintings by the Dutch artist Marie Louise Elshout and the British musician James Johnston, former guitarist of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, who has turned to painting in recent years. Elshout’s work is inspired by 19th-century´s daguerreotypes, exploring history, superstition, and tradition. Nature plays a significant role in her art, not merely as a backdrop but as an integral part of the ideas she conveys. Johnston’s work, on the other hand, exudes a powerful, mythical energy characteristic of his artistic expression. Together, the two artists create a space filled with bold colors, where the connection between humans and animals is depicted in an intriguing and thought-provoking way.
