Reading and Discussion with Author Hasnain Kazim

"Kale and Curry"

Hasnian Kazim was born in 1974 in Oldenburg. He is the son of Indian-Pakistani immigrants and grew up in the small community of Hollern-Twielenfleth between Stade and Hamburg. The political researcher worked as a the director of "Spiegel online" in Hamburg since 2006, and was the South-Asian correspondant for the „Spiegel“ since 2009 .
This year Kazim's book, „Kale and Curry“ was published, in which Kazim writes about the difficult existence of his family in Germany. He writes about the fate of his father, who fleed out of India to Pakistan and married Kazim's mother there. She was a rich Pakistani woman, with whom he eventually moved to Germany. In his autobiographical work, Kazim tells of his complex family history; his parents becoming immigrants and making the difficult journey away from seinem all that they knew and loved. The book „Kale and Curry“ is a very personal history, but is also very factual and relevant. It tells of the obstacles, the barriers and the problems they were confronted with while trying to integrate themselves into a new culture, as well as the motives behind such an undertaking.
Das Sprachenatelier welcomes Hasnain Kazim to a reading from his book „Kale and Curry“. Following the reading, we will be hosting a podium discussion, in which you will have a chance to question the author, but also to dicuss with each other about the themes in the book, such as the Kaschmir-Konflikt and the political situation in Pakistan. Any and all people interested in Literature/Pakistan are heartily invited to join in!
