A village on the bank of the Nioman River is swallowed up. Only old people live in this village. Grandmothers visit the island every day to milk their cows. „We live on the margin and so do our cows...“ says one of the women. The beautiful landscape of Belarus remains, even if human life does not.

Through contrasts between young and old, modernity and tradition the director comments of the problems of modern Belarus.
