"Everyday Life in the GDR"
Come to Kulturbrauerei with us on this Cultural Wednesday.
The permanent exhibition "Everyday Life in the GDR" shows the life of people in the GDR in the 1970s and 1980s in their workplaces, in public and in private. It shows how the SED regime shaped everyday life, how people dealt with shortages and restrictions, and where they found freedom.
Everyday objects in this exhibition are supplemented by historical documents, eyewitness’ testimonies, and contemporary film footage to view everyday life in the GDR from multiple perspectives. Stories from individuals' experiences illustrate different attitudes towards the communist dictatorship, from convinced adherence to attempted abstention to resistance.
