What Can You Do at B1 Level?

At B1 level, you learn to communicate in everyday situations, while traveling, and in your areas of interest in a simple and coherent way. You can report experiences, describe goals, and justify opinions. The most important grammatical structures will generally be used correctly.

How Is the telc Deutsch B1 Exam Structured?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes. Before the oral exam, you have 20 minutes of preparation time. The oral exam can take place on the same day as the written exam or on another day.

When Will I Receive My telc B1 Certificate?

Evaluation of your telc exam takes approximately 4–6 weeks. Once the results are available, you will receive a notification by email from Sprachenatelier Berlin.

When Have I Passed the telc B1 Exam?

Passed: At least 60% in both written and oral parts

Certificate: Includes total score and grade (1 = very good, 4 = sufficient)

Not passed? You will receive a results sheet. Passed parts can be credited toward a retake within 12 months.

What Do I Need to Know on Exam Day (telc Deutsch B1)?

Allowed: Soft HB pencil, eraser, sharpener, transparent bottles without label
Not Allowed: Jackets, watches, mobile phones (must be handed in), food, or breaks during the written exam

Important: Punctuality! Late participants will not be admitted. Use the toilet before the exam – no breaks are possible.

Do I Have to Repeat the Entire telc B1 Exam if I Pass One Part?

No! Only the part not passed must be repeated. The passed part remains valid for 12 months and will be credited.

  • Retake within 12 months
  • Full exam fee applies even for partial retakes
