Our Teaching Method for German courses
German as a Foreign Language (DaF) Pedagogical Methodology at Sprachenatelier Berlin
The pedagogical methodology at Sprachenatelier Berlin draws on the contemporary approaches to second-language acquisition taught at German universities as well as directly from the experience and ideas of the 50+ German teachers currently working at the institute. Instead of using a restrictive cookie-cutter method to teaching German, our teachers are actively encouraged to share their ideas and knowledge so what we can find the best approach to help you on your language journey. These valuable ideas, insights and techniques make up a toolbox for our teachers, allowing them to continually improve and perfect their own individual teaching style.
The following aspects of our approach to learning are instrumental in upholding a high standard of German teaching:
► Small teaching groups with an average of 8 students per class (14 students max.)
► An equally distributed focus to ensure students obtain the following aims:
improved oral and written expression
broadened vocabulary across a range of topics
mastering key grammar points
ability to deal with various everyday situations
► Offering supplementary specialised German courses in the afternoon. Students can take a course to address specific weaknesses or to pursue individual interests: intensive grammar, conversation and pronunciation courses as well as film, literature, or creative writing classes
► At least 2 teachers per group (intensive courses), this allows students to experience different teaching styles and accents, rather than having just one teacher Monday-Friday.
►Lessons are taught in German from the very beginning to ensure complete immersion
What separates us from other language schools...
Sprachenatelier Berlin‘s different approach to teaching language sets us apart from other schools where the conventional methods of textbook learning and listening exercises are exclusively practised. We place importance on learning not just the German language, but also the culture of German-speaking countries. You will find readings by contemporary authors, art exhibitions and music concerts held in the institute's salon included in Sprachenatelier‘s core curriculum as well as part of our extra-curricular programme. These events are intended to help broaden your knowledge of German culture and the Berlin culture scene. This also serves as the perfect extra opportunity for students who wish to practice their newly-acquired language skills.
Our outings and excursions to places of historical and cultural importance across Germany and in Berlin. The Berlin Friedrichshain where the school is situated is renowned for its cafés, art studios, landmarks and museums. Excursions are also organised to other parts of the city and other cities such as Leipzig, Dresden, and Munich.
Doesn't matter whether you live in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Lichtenberg or Neukölln, you'll find that our language school is central and easy to get to, right in the heart of Berlin-Friedrichshain. Check out the school's location here.
