Intensive German lessons - enjoy learning with people from all over the world and discover Berlin together.

Intensive German courses take place in the following periods of time:

2012
First run of the course: 25.06.-27.07.2012 (5 weeks)
Second run of the course: 30.07.-24.08.2012 (4 weeks)

The procedure:

On every first day of the course (2012: 25.06.12 and 30.07.12) there will be a placement test, as well as some communication skills activities for all non-beginners (from level A1b). Then we will give you all information about the school, German courses, extra courses, our culture program and Berlin itself. Moreover, there will a welcome breakfast in a cafe for all students.
German lessons will be held on the second day of the course from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be groups at different levels. The organization will be based on the results of the test and oral tasks.

German courses - the content
Lessons in Sprachenatelier are learner-oriented and place emphasis on communication skills. Our teachers adjust the program to the students' background knowledge and their current needs. We will practise grammar as well as other skills i.e. speaking, writing, listening and reading comprehension. We will be also open to students' suggestions about topics they want to discuss. We may also talk about Berlin and its history, which is traditionally a very popular topic in summer.

We offer:
- different group levels from A1 to C1
- 4 lesson hours a day from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- interesting activities: conversation on different topics, reading contemporary texts, writing about culture, listening to authentic materials and learning grammar in the least boring way!

Our culture program
After lessons there will a one-hour break and usually from 2p.m. we will have some cultural activities. Everyone is invited to take part in our culture program but of course it is not mandatory. It is a tradition at Sprachenatieler to go for a walk around our neighborhood in Friedrichshain on the second day of the course. You will be able to get to know this part of the city, get some ideas about where to go out and learn something about the history of Friedrichshain.

At the end of the trip we will go to the beer garden located in an alternative culture center.
We will offer 3 to 4 different afternoon/ evening cultural events every week.

trips to: Alexanderplatz und Nikolaiviertel, Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg
walks to the center of Berlin, Mauerpark, Karl Marx Allee, Unter den Linden
visits to the Berlinischer Galerie, DDR-Museum, Jewish Museum,
cruise along the Spree
barbecue party
beach volleyball

In every course run there will always be one trip outside the city. Having a weekend-ticket we travelled in the past years for example to Leipzig, Dresden, Rostock, Frankfurt/Oder and Erfurt. Participation in our culture program is free. We guarantee guidance and organization but you will have to pay for the admission tickets and transportation costs yourself.
The last day of the course (2012: 27.07.12 and 24.08.12) every group together with their teacher will have to prepare a little performance for our closing revue which will take place in our salon at 11:30 a.m. It can be a song, sketch, poem or a dance. There is no limit to what you can think of!
We will meet again in the evening, when we will go to pub for a farewell party.

Starting dates
Absolute beginners (level A1a) can start lessons either on 25.06.12 or on 30.07.12. Students who already have some knowledge of the German language (from level A1b) can join a running course on any Monday.

Our students
There is no age limit in Sprachenatelier but the majority of our students are between 15 and 35. We offer all level groups from A1a (absolute beginners) to C1 and almost mother tongue level.

Extra courses
We organize also extra courses including art and photography courses, theater and literature workshops

Accommodation
Course participants must make their own accommodation arrangements. The Sprachenatelier offers help in finding accommodation but cannot give any guarantees. Early reservations may be more successful.
Hostels are the best option if you are looking for accommodation for a short visit (one month or less). They are a type of budget accommodation for backpackers and other individual travellers who aren't looking for luxury and and prefer an inexpensive option. In hostels, you book a bed and not a room, so you may have to sleep in a room with ten people.

The best option and a good way to meet nice people, is to live in a shared flat (Wohngemeinschaft - WG for short). It can be made up of 2 but also of 20 people. Whether its sharing breakfast, cooking, partying or simply in order to live more cheaply, there are many opportunities to live in a shared flat for the long or short term. The current monthly price for a room in a shared apartment ranges from 300 to 450 €.

Transfer from the airport
Sprachenatelier can arrange a transfer for you from the airport to school or your accommodation. It costs €70. We advise our students to take a Taxi as it might be cheaper.
